The market for organic products in China has quadrupled in the past five years; Chinese statistics show the market is now valued at 10 billion yuan --or around $1.55 billion, according to a report by Biofach, organizer of the world's largest trade fair for organic food and agriculture.  This is just one piece of evidence showing that China's organic food market, while still in its infancy, is growing rapidly.  Fueled by an average GDP growth of over 10% in the past five years, a rapidly growing middle class, rising standards of living, and continued food safety and environmental challenges, organic food is one way to make a real difference in the environment, while improving health and safety for Chinese consumers.

Production and sale of organics, which started as a primarily export-oriented market, has "gone local," so to speak, in only the past few years.  An increasingly well-educated and well-off middle and upper class has started to seek an alternative to industrially grown agricultural products.  This website focuses on the development of a thriving internal market in China for organic food as the local urban population becomes increasingly concerned regarding the safety and quality of their food and the sustainability of their lifestyles.
